Oleksiy Charey

Ukrainian documentary photographer, serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He graduated from the Faculty of Cybernetics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Until 2018, he worked in marketing, sales, and manufacturing, and was also involved in entrepreneurial activities.

In 2019, he began working in documentary photography. His first projects were related to domestic violence, children's rights violations, and police misconduct. Working in this field, he could not stand aside from the suffering of children and joined the NGO “Protection of Children's Rights,” where he participated in the implementation of human rights projects and the investigation of human rights violations.

After the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, he decided to join the Armed Forces. While serving, he continued to document the environment of soldiers who had been civilians the day before. Until February 2025, he was directly involved in combat operations, first in the infantry, then as a member of unmanned systems groups. He is certified as an operator of various unmanned vehicles in every existing class. He has received a number of military awards, including the Golden Cross.
