One of the main areas of work of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) is educational, social, research and cultural projects aimed at the development and popularization of Ukrainian photographic art.
Our goal is to become a world recognized center of Ukrainian photography, which contributes to its development, raising the level of professionalism of photographers and promotion of Ukrainian cultural values in the international photographic community.

From 12 to 22 June in Berlin, Dokumentale'25 — the International Documentary Film and Media Festival, which will feature the exhibition “Mariupol — The City That Refused to Die” in cooperation with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP).

Two years of full-scale war in a photobook from Reporters. 190 documentary frames taken between February 2022 and February 2024. Among the authors of the pictures are Danylo Pavlov, Yevhen Maloletka, Sergey Korovainy, Vyacheslav Ratinsky and almost 40 other photographers.

The photobook, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, was published with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Book Institute. It contains more than 140 unique documentary photographs from more than 60 Ukrainian photographers, arranged in chronological order, from the proclamation of Ukraine's independence to the present day.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) supported the creation of the exhibition “The production of dreams or What the modern media machine offers”. The project provides an artistic reflection of contemporary media reality and is based on research into how the media affects our ability to perceive the world around us.

With the support of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP), an exhibition by Ukrainian photographer Igor Chekachkov, whose photographs have been published by Forbes, National Geographic, The Guardian, Le Monde, and other international media outlets, took place. NA4JOPM8 is a series of photographs that combines images of fragments of reality from different spheres: from protest events on Maidan in Kharkiv to intimate scenes from private life. However, their artistic image was completed by chance.

The Ukrainian Culture and Sports Atelier, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) and the Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts Innovation Fund of Baden-Württemberg, presented a series of exhibition projects that were a photo diary from occupied Mariupol and were exhibited in the Ukrainian Embassy in Berlin. The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) partnered with Chekachkov Photo Academy to hold a contest for the best visual diary shot during quarantine. The result was a group online exhibition called “Those Alone,” which featured the best photos taken as part of the contest initiated by Chekachkov Photo Academy.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) and Chekachkov Photo Academy presented a series of lectures by Mstislav Chernov: Photography as a tool of manipulation. Manipulation in the media is possible even without pressure from censors. The flow of images is everywhere, it determines trends and tastes, influences changes in political regimes. The media constructs reality and is capable of determining the course of history.

The book was created in cooperation with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAFF) and the Ukrainian House. The publication includes works by Ukrainian photographers, taken within two years of the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops.

WEYUAPP is an art project created by Italian photographer Lisa Borgiani in partnership with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP). The project is a continuation of the series “What does Europe mean to you?” (WEY), which explores the sense of European identity through the personal histories and visual images of residents of European countries.
Education
The program includes four mentoring courses and a final competition for participants. After that, we will provide financial support in the amount of 8000€ to Ukrainian photographers who will create projects related to the theme of war. First of all, we support authors who do not have constant access to software and resources, giving them an additional opportunity to continue their work.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) in cooperation with The Ukrainians published a special issue of the magazine Reporters, which brought together the strongest documentary footage of the Ukrainian struggle for freedom. The issue includes 155 pictures from leading photographers and photographers of the country, as well as texts by Dmitry Kuleba, Alexandra Matviychuk, Sergey Plokhiy, Vladimir Yermolenko, Elena Styazhkina and Olesya Khromeychuk.

The exhibition project, created in cooperation with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) and IST Publishing, is realized within the framework of the presentation of the book of the same name, which reflects the life of Ukraine during the difficult period of winter blackouts 2022-2023, as well as the courage of energy workers and every citizen of Ukraine.

The photobook “Brave to Carry the Light” about the most difficult winter in the history of independent Ukraine was published in cooperation with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers and the publishing house Ist publishing house. It contains photographs of more than 30 Ukrainian authors and authors who during the autumn of 2022, winter and spring 2023 recorded the energy crisis due to the destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure facilities by the Russian military.

Within the framework of the Czech Photo 2022 festival, the Czech Photo Center Gallery in Prague opened the exhibition “Siege of Mariupol — The Last Journalists in the Occupied City”, which presented the world-famous works of Mstislav Chernov and Yevhen Maloletka. The project was implemented by the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) in cooperation with Czech Photo and the Association of Professional Photographers of the Czech Republic (APF).

A large-scale exhibition of participants of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers, which is entitled “They also fight for us”, was realized in the Czech Republic, Belgium and the USA. The exhibition presents more than 200 photographs that document vivid evidence of Russia's aggression and genocide in Ukraine, the lives of ordinary people in war and the brave struggle of our people not only for their own freedom, but also for the freedom of the whole world.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) in cooperation with the Museum of Modern German History in Leipzig and Bonn opened a series of large exhibition projects “UNABHÄNGIGKEIT! Fotografien aus der Ukraine 1991—2022”. The works presented at the exposition testify that the beginning of the war in 2022 is not the beginning, but a dramatic aggravation of the long-standing conflict between the two states.

The project is dedicated to the tragedy of the city of Bakhmut, which took place in 2022, as well as the commemoration of the victims of the Bakhmut “Babi Yar”, a terrible crime committed by the Nazis in 1942. This exhibition aims to bring two genocides together in one space and draw parallels between them.

On the Day of Commemoration of Holodomor Victims in Graz and Vienna, the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) in cooperation with the Center for Austro-Ukrainian Cultural Studies, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Austria, the Ukrainian Student Society “Sich Ukrainian” in Graz and The Scientific Research and Educational Center for the Study of the Holodomor (HREC) has created a number of documentary exhibitions.

The exhibition project represents the wealth of Ukrainian photography for five decades. It begins in the 70s, at a time when Ukrainian visual art began to express its own language publicly, and ends with the war that is now sweeping the country. “Ukraine: The Path to Freedom” visualizes key events in the history of Ukraine and examines the development of photography during this period.

Partners and partial sponsors of the exhibition were the Polish Institute in India, the Pharmaceutical Company “Kusum” and representatives of the Ukrainian community in India.

In the project, we explore the chronicles of the war in Ukraine, witnessed by dozens of Ukrainian photographers. Their photos helped create a unique artistic space that will become a reference point of a new era in the history of Ukraine and show it to the world. The virtual gallery presents both famous pictures that have already become part of world history, and those that have not yet been published. Each photo is a symbol of struggle, unity and indestructibility of the Ukrainian people.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities and supported the All-Ukrainian Pajama Day, an event that brings together thousands of people every year with a single charitable goal: to help children in Ukraine stay close to their families during treatment.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) has become a partner of the “From Country to Ukraine” festival, which aims to help local communities in eastern Ukraine fill their cities with an atmosphere of unity, support, and a sense of the indomitable Ukrainian spirit.

The aim of the project is to attract the attention of society and the authorities to the problem of decay of valuable buildings, as well as to popularize the creativity of Ukrainian photographers and the history of Ukrainian photography. Using the empty windows of an abandoned building as photo frames is a synthesis of photography and architecture. They enrich each other with new meanings and seem to speak to the observer: “Conscious efforts to preserve history are necessary in all spheres of our nation's cult.”

The Ukrainian Archival Photography project is an initiative of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP). It aims to research and promote Ukrainian archival photography, create a comprehensive vision for the development of photography in Ukraine, promote culture, and preserve and study the photographic heritage.
Social Projects
In 2014, the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) became a partner of the international photo contest Wiki Loves Earth, dedicated to the natural monuments of Ukraine. The main goal of the competition is to create the most complete photo database of natural monuments and objects of the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine under a free license for illustrating Wikipedia and other projects.
UAPP is an independent association of professional Ukrainian photographers, designed to protect their interests, support, develop and promote Ukrainian photography as an important element of national culture.
UAPP's activities span educational, social, research and cultural initiatives, as well as book publishing.
UAPP represents Ukrainian professional photography in the international photographic community and is an official member of the Federation of European Photographers (FEP) — an international organization representing more than 50,000 professional photographers in Europe and other countries around the world.
