In the evening of October 21, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a missile strike on the Novaya Poshta terminal in the village of Korotych in Kharkiv region. The head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Oleg Syenegubov said that they fired from the S-300 air defense system.

“Ordinary civilian object. Unfortunately, there are dead, - President Volodymyr Zelensky said. “All services are working on the spot, rescue operation is ongoing.”

As of 1 p.m., six people were killed and sixteen others were injured and shrapnel wounds were reported as a result of the rocket attack. The four sought outpatient medical care. According to the mayor of Kharkiv Igor Terekhov, the victims are residents of Kharkiv, Pisochin, Lyubotyn and Izyum. All of them were employees of Nova Poshta.

October 22 was declared a day of mourning:

“We will work and honor every deceased hero of Nova Poshta. Everyone killed in this war.”

Photographer Yevgeny Gartner, together with colleagues, left for the scene just half an hour later. At the scene of the incident, Yevgeny filmed everything, but decided not to show photos with mutilated bodies.

“I saved the footage for the Military Archive of Ukraine. We will still need this,” says Yevgeny Gertner. “Most of all, I was struck, as always, by the cynicism and cruelty of the Russian army, which once again strikes civilian infrastructure, covering up victories.”

Photographer Yakov Lyashenko arrived at the scene after midnight, when journalists began to be allowed inside. By that time, the fire had already been extinguished and rescue operations had ended. Inside the destroyed terminal “Nova Poshta” were working forensics.

“Parcels were scattered around and sorting robots were on, which are supposed to transport boxes of parcels. The bodies of the deceased employees of Novaya Poshta were lying on the floor,” says Yakov Lyashenko.
