October brought a cold spell with rain to Ukraine, and snow fell in the Carpathians. Concurrently, Russia intensified its campaign of terror, attacking Ukraine daily with various types of weapons. Under fire: energy infrastructure, transport links, and Ukrainian civilians. Enemy strikes reached not only border areas but also distant communities. The terror in Kherson and Donetsk regions continues.
Russians are intensifying attacks on energy. The week began with shelling of the power system in Chernihiv region, affecting the towns of Bobrovytsia, Nosivka, and Nizhyn. The enemy struck a substation in Slavutych, Kyiv region. Due to a power outage in the city, the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant experienced a three-hour blackout.
Invincibility Points were deployed in Chernihiv region and Slavutych, and socially important facilities began operating on powerful generators. Hourly and emergency power outages were introduced.


“The Russians could not have been unaware that the strike on facilities in Slavutych would have such consequences for Chornobyl. And it was a deliberate attack in which they used over 20 drones—according to preliminary estimates, Russian-Iranian 'Shaheds.' Some of these drones were shot down, but the attack was organized precisely as a drone wave to complicate the defense of the facility,” — reacted to the shelling of Slavutych Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Throughout the week, the Russian Federation continued to attack energy facilities in Sumy and Chernihiv regions. On the night of October 3, Russians launched a massive strike on energy and gas production facilities in Poltava region, using strike drones and missiles. During the cleanup of the shelling consequences, SES rescuers came under repeat missile fire. A fire truck was damaged. On the night before the weekend, the Russian Federation launched a ballistic missile strike on energy infrastructure in Donetsk region. Power outages occurred. The night of October 4 was hellish with enemy fire for Chernihiv as well. Several important power supply facilities were damaged. Shostka in Sumy region also came under enemy attack. A gas distribution station, the network, and a water pipeline were damaged.
The ZNPP has been experiencing a blackout since September 23 due to Russian shelling.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated:
«The Russian Federation disconnected the Zaporizhzhia NPP from Ukraine’s power grid under the pretext of a ‘test’ and is preparing to reconnect it to its own energy system».
September 29, Sumy region was under a nighttime drone attack. The enemy subjected Dnipropetrovsk region to round-the-clock terror. An administrative building, a hotel, residential buildings, and cars were damaged. Russians shelled the Dormition Cathedral of the UOC-MP in Kherson during a service. No casualties were reported.
September 30, at night, the Russian army killed a family of four—a couple and their young sons—with a drone strike in the village of Chernechchyna, Sumy region. The woman was pregnant with twins. The fire was extinguished for 12 hours. At night and during the day, industrial facilities, transport infrastructure, and agricultural machinery in Chernihiv region were attacked. A truck driver was killed. In broad daylight, Russians massively attacked Dnipro with strike drones. Fires broke out. Educational and medical institutions were damaged. 31 people were reported injured, and a young man died. In Konotop, Sumy region, a man was wounded by a bullet while air defense was operating. He died in the hospital on October 3.
October 1, Kharkiv region, the cities of Kharkiv and Balakliia were massively attacked with guided aerial bombs and missiles. There are dead and injured, with damage to a market, private residential sector, a garage cooperative, and other facilities. Russian UAVs attacked Bucha and Vyshhorod districts of Kyiv region at night. Fires broke out.
On the night of October 2, the Russian army shelled Kyiv region, Dnipropetrovsk region, and Odesa. In Odesa, a fire broke out at a Ukrzaliznytsia depot. A train driver was injured. The Konotop community in Sumy region was under massive strikes for several consecutive days.
On the night of October 3, the Russian Federation massively attacked Ukraine. 416 means of aerial assault were used: strike UAVs, ballistic, cruise, and guided aerial missiles. Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Kyiv regions came under attack. In Kharkiv region, approximately 13,000 pigs were killed due to a Russian drone attack on an agricultural enterprise. A large-scale fire broke out, and an employee of the enterprise was injured.
In the evening, it became known that a Russian FPV drone killed French photojournalist Antony Lallican and severely wounded Ukrainian photojournalist Heorhii Ivanchenko. This happened near Druzhkivka, Donetsk region. It was a targeted strike on the car carrying the journalists, as they had all the necessary equipment for working on the front line. Heorhii underwent surgery.
On the night of October 4, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions came under enemy attack. Dnipro was attacked by UAVs, and Pavlohrad suffered a missile attack. In the morning, two Russian "Shaheds" attacked the railway station in the Shostka community, Sumy region. One drone hit a passenger train on the Shostka-Kyiv route. A carriage caught fire. One person was killed, and eight were injured, including three children. During the firefighting, rescuers came under repeat shelling. Late in the evening, Russians dropped aerial bombs on a high-rise building in Sloviansk, Donetsk region. Six people were wounded.
On the night of October 5, the Russian army launched a combined attack on Ukraine, using about 500 UAVs and over 50 missiles. The main direction of the strike was Lviv region. Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, and Kirovohrad regions also came under attack. Five people were reported killed. Targets included: critical infrastructure facilities, industrial enterprises, and residential buildings. In Lviv region, a family of four died, four people were injured, the Sparrow industrial park caught fire, and a partial blackout occurred.
An Unpleasant Morning in Zaporizhzhia: Enemy Strikes with Drones and Aerial Bombs
On the night of October 5, the enemy struck Zaporizhzhia and its suburbs with strike drones and guided aerial bombs. At least 10 strikes were recorded in the city. One person died, and nine more were wounded. Among the injured is a 16-year-old child. Three districts of the city suffered from Russian shelling. Eight hit locations were recorded across the region. Residential infrastructure suffered extensive damage.


There are interruptions in electricity and water supply. Over 70,000 subscribers are without power. The enemy left a hospital without electricity—it is running on generators. Restoration of power supply to houses is ongoing.


Ukrainian Response: A Ukrainian drone attacked the gauleiter of Nova Kakhovka, Volodymyr Leontiev; he died in the hospital, and an FPV kamikaze drone attacked a Russian Mi-28 attack helicopter. Targets of shelling included: the "Elektrodetal" plant in Bryansk region, the "Azot" plant in Perm Krai, the "Orsknefteorgsintez" plant in Orenburg region, the Buyan-M small missile ship in Karelia, the "Garmon" radar complex and a transporter-loader vehicle from the Iskander OTRK complex in Kursk region, the command post of the 8th Army of the Russian Armed Forces in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region, as well as the Kirishinefteorgsintez oil refinery.
