Shopping centers and warehouses in several regions of Ukraine came under massive attacks this week. Chernihiv suffered for over a week from attacks by kamikaze drones, with strikes recorded on residential buildings; drones attacked Kyiv and the region for more than two days, with casualties among children in both regions. In the Bucha district, a strike on warehouses caused a massive fire and subsequent ammunition detonation, with 38 people known dead. The enemy intensified aerial terror in the Donetsk and Kherson regions. In Kherson, authorities called on residents to evacuate due to critical damage to the thermal power plant (TEC).
Chronicle of Russian shelling from August 23 to 30, 2026
August 23, in the Lozova community of Kharkiv region, Russians launched a double strike on railway infrastructure; despite an early stop and evacuation, two women died because some people refused to move to a safe distance, an 11-year-old girl is in serious condition, and four others were injured. In the Chernihiv region, residential buildings were damaged, and a drone strike on a gas station caused a fire and injured a station employee; in Chernihiv, the private sector suffered damage. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, residential buildings, an enterprise, an administrative building, and a bank were damaged, and three civilians were injured. Russians once again struck a plant of the American company Mondelēz International in the Sumy region, damaging plant premises and injuring several employees, reported Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
On the night of August 24, three people died in the suburbs of Kharkiv, there are wounded, and private houses were damaged; due to enemy drone attacks in the city, residential buildings and a gas station were damaged, and fires broke out. In Izium, a morning strike on the private sector led to the death of a man, nine others were injured, a child was among the victims, and about ten houses and power grids were damaged. In Pavlohrad, a person died and two were injured following a hit on an apartment building; in the Nikopol district, five were injured, and a gymnasium, an administrative building, and the residential sector were damaged. During the day, the Russian army struck a high-rise building in downtown Chernihiv with a Geran-5 drone carrying a thermobaric charge, reported Suspilne Novyny, citing the head of the National Police in the Chernihiv region, Volodymyr Tymoshko: at least 26 people were injured, including three children, and two people, including a 17-year-old girl, are in serious condition; nearby houses, an administrative building, and cars were damaged. In the Sumy region, civilian infrastructure, transport, and a non-residential building were damaged, fires broke out, and a person was injured; Russians once again damaged the St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Church in Seredyna-Buda, reported Kordon Media. In the Kherson region, a woman died, another man died in the regional center, and three civilians were injured, including an 11-year-old boy; due to constant attacks on energy infrastructure, systemic power and water supply interruptions occurred in the city. In the Mykolaiv region, energy facilities came under drone strikes.
In the Chernihiv region on August 25, 45 shellings and 38 casualties were recorded: in Chernihiv, hits occurred at a woodworking enterprise and the Yalivshchyna park; 13 people were injured in the region, including five teenagers; there was a double strike on a building of communication operators followed by a fire; houses, administrative buildings, and shops were damaged; large-scale fires raged at enterprises, in forestry, and at road infrastructure sites. In Konotop, Sumy region, drone attacks destroyed a residential building, an agricultural enterprise, and Ukrzaliznytsia facilities; dozens of buildings were damaged, and part of the city was temporarily left without gas. In Kharkiv, a gas station and warehouse buildings were damaged as a result of a rocket and drone attack, and three civilians were injured. In Izium, there are wounded and injured, including girls aged 16 and 11. In the Zaporizhzhia region, two people died following guided aerial bomb hits on the regional center; due to drone attacks, fires broke out in a high-rise building, non-residential structures, a warehouse, and a parking lot, where about ten cars caught fire. One person died and eight were injured, including an 11-year-old child, due to an airstrike and drone attack in the Dniprovskyi and Tsentralnyi districts of Kherson. In the Mykolaiv region, a drone hit a suburban train, with no casualties; a commercial facility was damaged in the region and a woman was injured. In the Dnipro district, Russians damaged a shopping complex followed by a fire; Ekonomichna Pravda reports that the enemy attacked the Karavan shopping mall, significantly damaging one of the premises. In the Nikopol district, three civilians were injured, and a dormitory, educational institutions, and a kindergarten were damaged; Kryvyi Rih and Pavlohrad were under attack. In Kryvyi Rih, search and rescue operations at the site of the Russian strike on a shopping center have been completed: 16 deaths were confirmed, and 136 people were injured, including 26 children.
On the night of August 26, a kamikaze drone purposefully struck a private house in Chernihiv: a mother and her four-year-old daughter died, and a 14-year-old daughter is in the hospital in moderate condition. All day, the regional center and district were under drone attack; there were hits on warehouses, and four people were injured; in the region, residential buildings and agricultural enterprises suffered damage, 20,000 head of poultry and 50 pigs died, special equipment was damaged, and a total of 14 people were injured during the day, including two children. In the Sumy region, two civilians were injured, residential and non-residential buildings, administrative buildings, infrastructure facilities, shops, and automotive equipment were damaged; in the regional center, the city park suffered. In the Kharkiv region, there were 23 casualties, including two children, mostly in Izium; in the village of Rohan, a morning drone strike caused a fire over an area of 800 square meters at a civilian enterprise. In Kharkiv, an enterprise, private houses, cars, and a hangar were damaged. An enemy drone purposefully attacked a car with DTEK employees returning from a night shift in the Dnipropetrovsk region: two miners died from their injuries; two more people died in the region, and there are wounded. In Zaporizhzhia, a kamikaze drone hit a non-residential building—three people were injured, including two 17-year-old girls. In Kherson, several commercial stalls burned to the ground as a result of an attack; the enemy launched a repeat strike with an FPV drone on a SES water tanker: the fire truck was damaged and the driver was injured; a ten-year-old boy was also hospitalized due to the attacks.
In the Osnovyanskyi district of Kharkiv on August 27, a man died due to a drone strike on a shopping center; there were hits on high-rise buildings in the Industrialnyi district; a gas station, a car, a shop, and a pharmacy were also damaged in the city, with casualties reported. Ukrainska Pravda reported that the enemy struck Epicentr; the deceased and injured were visitors. The enemy massively attacked the Romny community in the Sumy region with drones: a woman died, four others were injured, and residential houses and civilian infrastructure were destroyed; there is another fatality in the region and three enterprises were damaged. Following a kamikaze drone strike on Chernihiv, four civilians were injured and a warehouse building was destroyed; in the region, a drone destroyed a church, and hits on critical infrastructure facilities were recorded. In the Poltava region, fires raged at an energy facility and industrial enterprises. The enemy struck an industrial enterprise in Kryvyi Rih with two ballistic missiles, also damaging a medical institution and civilian objects; three men sustained moderate injuries; downtown Nikopol came under artillery fire, six people were injured, three of them are in the hospital, and educational institutions, cafes, banks, and shops were damaged. In Kherson, a man died and three people were injured, including a shuttle bus driver in the city center; private houses and high-rise buildings burned. Russian troops launched an airstrike on the Kherson TEC, causing critical damage to the facility. In the Mykolaiv region, an agricultural enterprise warehouse was damaged. In Zaporizhzhia and the district, a woman died and ten people were injured, including three children; in the regional center, an industrial enterprise was hit, and enemy FPV drones attacked the private sector and civilian transport, injuring four people. The Khortytsia distillery in Zaporizhzhia was completely destroyed by a fire that broke out following hits, Hromadske reports.
On the night of August 28, eight strikes with guided aerial bombs (KABs) on civilian infrastructure, service stations, and residential buildings were recorded in Sumy; a Nova Poshta sorting center was destroyed, a truck driver is known dead and seven were injured; in the evening, MLRS shelling caused a fire at warehouses and damaged transport, seven people were injured, and one civilian is in serious condition. In the Zhytomyr region, four trucks and three semi-trailers caught fire due to an enemy attack. In Zmiiv, Kharkiv region, a fire broke out in two houses due to an attack by kamikaze drones, a warehouse building was damaged, and a woman died; in the region, two ten-year-old children are among the injured. In Kharkiv, a Russian drone hit a gas station, a woman died, there were nine casualties, and houses, a shopping center, an administrative building, a gas station, a bus, and cars were damaged. As a result of drone attacks on Zaporizhzhia, one person died and 15 more were injured, including a 17-year-old girl; destruction occurred in the private sector and a large-scale fire broke out in a construction hypermarket, with food warehouses also damaged. In the Synelnykove district of the Dnipropetrovsk region, two people died, and private homes and cars were damaged; in Pavlohrad, a 17-year-old youth died due to a hit on a hardware store, seven people were injured, three are in serious condition, and the store building and a private house caught fire. In Kherson, two people died in the hospital from their injuries, and three more civilians were injured, including a 14-year-old boy and his mother. From shrapnel wounds sustained during a Russian drone attack, Oleksandr Chyzhevych, chief inspector of the section for control over the maintenance of protective structures and organization of evacuation measures, a captain of the civil protection service, died in the hospital.
August 29, energy facilities, a hardware supermarket, warehouses, an administrative building, garages, and residential buildings were damaged in the Mykolaiv region as a result of rocket and drone strikes on port, civilian, and energy infrastructure; emergency power outages occurred in Mykolaiv and communities in several districts. In Zaporizhzhia, a private house was damaged due to an enemy strike, and one person was injured. In Kherson, three men died and another person was wounded. In Pavlohrad, a logistics company building caught fire and an enterprise was damaged. In Chernihiv, a transport infrastructure facility and non-residential buildings were damaged, a fire broke out, and a man was injured. In Sumy, an enemy drone purposefully hit a medical transport vehicle on hospital grounds: two ambulances, a civilian car, and the entrance to the medical facility were damaged; 14 people were injured in the region by enemy attacks.
In the Mykolaiv region on August 30, an enemy attack caused a large-scale fire at a food industry enterprise warehouse. In Pavlohrad, a construction and hardware supermarket, a gas station, and garages were damaged; in the Nikopol district and the Dnipro district, enterprises were damaged, and one man was hospitalized in serious condition. In the Kharkiv region, eight people were injured; two gas stations and cars were damaged in the regional center. In the Zaporizhzhia region, one person died and five were injured; the adversary hit warehouse premises followed by a fire. In the Chernihiv region, buildings on poultry farm grounds and private houses were damaged. In the Cherkasy region, buildings on an enterprise site and a pipeline were damaged by a falling drone. In the Poltava region, drones fell in an open area and on a civilian building, and a fire broke out in a residential house.
Odesa Region
On August 23, a private home, a dacha, and three grain silos at an agricultural enterprise were damaged in the region as a result of Russian attacks; three people were injured, including a 16-year-old girl. A fire also broke out due to a hit on a two-story residential building. Occupants launched a double strike on a passenger train with nearly 600 passengers, including 15 children, hitting the locomotive with a drone during evacuation; thanks to early warning from the monitoring center and swift actions by railway workers, no one was injured.
On August 24, the enemy launched a massive strike on warehouse premises, energy, and gas infrastructure; fires broke out at hit sites, private houses were damaged, and two shopping centers caught fire—one was completely engulfed in flames, while the other had a minor fire. Suspilne Odesa reported that Russians attacked two Epicentrs. At least five people were injured, and three were hospitalized in moderate condition. Due to damage to an energy facility, part of the Odesa district was left without electricity.
On the night of August 25, Russians launched a strike on the Vynohradivka international automobile checkpoint on the border with Moldova, damaging its infrastructure; transport passage was suspended.
On August 27, the Odesa region was under a massive combined enemy attack that lasted over seven hours; Russians struck civilian and critical infrastructure in the region, causing large-scale fires and destruction. In Odesa, a 16-story building, a private house with a garage, two educational institutions, infrastructure facilities, an elevator area, and civilian cars were damaged; outbuildings and dry grass burned. Three civilians were hospitalized.
On the night of August 29, the Russian army massively attacked the south of the Odesa region, killing one person and injuring three; the strike destroyed five and damaged three trucks carrying grain.
Donetsk Region
On August 24, Sloviansk was under continuous strikes from aerial bombs, MLRS, and FPV drones around the clock: more than 20 private and seven apartment buildings, an industrial zone, and an educational institution were damaged, and eight civilians were injured, including two teenagers. On August 25, one person died and five were injured in Sloviansk; five high-rise buildings were damaged in the central part of the city, and there is damage and destruction in the private sector.
On August 25, Russians launched a massive strike with aerial bombs on Kramatorsk, using nine FAB-250s: a man died, at least 25 civilians were injured, including a two-month-old infant, and most of the injured were hospitalized in serious condition, as reported by the head of the Kramatorsk City Military Administration, Oleksandr Honcharenko. Over three dozen high-rise buildings, three educational institutions, and a critical infrastructure facility were damaged. During the elimination of the strike's consequences, an enemy FPV drone hit a SES armored medical vehicle: personnel were not injured, but special equipment was damaged.
On August 26, Russian troops launched airstrikes on Sloviansk and Kramatorsk: one person died and five were injured, nearly three dozen high-rise buildings, a dormitory, and a shopping center were damaged, and a historical building was destroyed. The Institute of Mass Information announced that a Russian aerial bomb destroyed a century-old historical building of the "Printing House" (Drukarskyi Dvir) in the center of Sloviansk.
On the night of August 27, Russian troops launched another massive strike on residential areas of Kramatorsk, dropping seven aerial bombs on the city. Two civilians were injured, 16 apartment buildings, a dormitory, a shopping center, and cars were damaged, and fires broke out. In one of the five-story buildings, four residents were trapped on the upper floors—rescuers managed to free them and evacuate them from the building. During the day, the city sustained numerous FPV drone strikes; during one hit, a man riding a bicycle died.
During the night of August 28, Sloviansk was under enemy airstrikes; hits were recorded in various neighborhoods, destroying five and damaging more than 20 private houses, three high-rise buildings, and stalls at the Pryvokzalnyi market; two people were hospitalized, one man in serious condition. On August 28–29, one person died in the city, three more civilians were injured, seven high-rise buildings, private houses, shops, an enterprise, and cars were destroyed; a monument to World War II soldiers who liberated Sloviansk from the Nazis, one of the city's symbols, was completely destroyed.
On August 29, two enemy drones hit a hospital in Kramatorsk; the traumatology building was damaged.
Kyiv Region
On the night of August 25, in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, an apartment on the 14th floor of a high-rise building was damaged by falling drone debris; there were no fires or casualties. From the night of August 27 through the end of the week, Kyiv and the region were under enemy attack: many deaths and injuries, large-scale destruction and fires, and heavy smoke is observed in the city and suburbs.
In Kyiv on August 27, three people were injured, two of whom were hospitalized; objects in five districts of the city sustained destruction and damage. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the premises of a gymnasium were significantly destroyed, and the blast wave blew out windows in a medical facility and another school. In the Holosiivskyi district, drones fell on a roadway and a non-residential building; a car and the roof of a two-story premises caught fire. In the Pecherskyi district, grass caught fire in an open area due to falling debris. In the Podilskyi district, debris fell in the courtyards of residential buildings, on the grounds of a kindergarten, and near a non-residential structure. In the Obolonskyi district, falling debris was recorded in residential areas, a park, a parking lot, and a garage cooperative.
In the Kyiv region on August 27, private residential houses and warehouse premises in the Brovary, Vyshhorod, Boryspil, and Fastiv districts were damaged. Two people are known injured, including a 15-year-old girl. In the Boryspil district, rescuers worked at nine locations.
Following the night shelling, 28 repeat attacks were recorded; the air raid alert in the region lasted over 14 hours. The Bucha district was added to the affected areas. Elimination of the consequences is complicated by the constant risk to rescuers' lives: during firefighting, emergency workers were forced to take cover 13 times. Specifically, in the Bucha district, while extinguishing warehouses, an enemy drone hit the location where firefighters were working for a second time. Despite this, emergency workers managed to localize large-scale warehouse building fires at three sites and completely extinguish a fire involving 13 cars. On the morning of August 28, a person died in this district, and another was injured.
In total, 14 warehouse premises, 16 private and three apartment buildings, as well as 16 vehicles were damaged in the region during the first day of attacks. Ukrainska Pravda reports that a Nova Poshta sorting depot was destroyed and production was damaged in the Bucha district by a Russian attack. Ekonomichna Pravda reports the destruction and damage of several food warehouses: damaged warehouse of the KOLO grocery store chain, destroyed distribution center of the Avrora multimarket chain, destroyed Roshen warehouse, damaged warehouse of the Fora chain. Among other attacked facilities: distribution center of the Comfy appliance store chain, distribution center of Budynok Ihrashok, two book warehouses.
“The feed is turning into collections of photos with ruins and destruction. This is the reality. We must document it so that no one can ever say this didn’t happen,”— wrote photojournalist Ivan Antypenko from Suspilne Novyny on his Instagram, documenting the consequences of the Russian attack in the Kyiv region.
On the evening of August 28, in the village of Myla, Bucha district, a large-scale fire with subsequent ammunition detonation broke out as a result of a hit on warehouse premises on an enterprise site. The fire spread to the private sector; more than 130 residential houses, a nursing home for the elderly and people with disabilities were damaged; 38 people are known dead and 20 injured, including two children; another four people are considered missing. Among the dead is the head of the Dmytrivka community, Taras Didych, who came to rescue people. Most of the dead are residents of the nursing home, reports Hromadske.
Over 400 people were evacuated from the danger zone, and traffic on the M-06 Kyiv-Chop highway was blocked from km 15 to 32. The Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the circumstances of the detonation and is assessing the actions of responsible officials. August 30 was declared a Day of Mourning for the dead in the Kyiv region.
In the Boryspil district, Russian troops hit warehouses and private houses; a man sustained shrapnel wounds and was hospitalized. On the morning of August 29, a 14-year-old girl died as a result of a drone attack.
In the Svyatoshynskyi district of Kyiv on the night of August 29, a fire broke out in an apartment on the top floor of a nine-story building; the ceiling and roof were destroyed. Residential houses and an administrative building in the private sector were also damaged, and two people were injured. In the Holosiivskyi district, a warehouse roof caught fire. In the Podilskyi district, drones hit non-residential buildings. In the Obolonskyi district, a drone fell in an open area, damaging a cafe building and the landscaping of a public park; a two-year-old child sustained fatal injuries. In total, there were eight casualties in the capital, and three were hospitalized.

During the night attack by Russian drones on August 30, at least three people were injured in the capital, and rescue services worked in several districts of the city. In the Obolonskyi district, a fire broke out from the second to fifth floors of a 12-story residential building due to a hit. In the Holosiivskyi district, fires broke out in an administrative building and a non-residential structure. In the Podilskyi district, an enemy drone hit a non-residential building. The attack caused large-scale fires in open areas: in the Dniprovskyi district, the blast wave destroyed a concrete fence and bushes caught fire, while in the Desnyanskyi district, dry grass burned over an area of two hectares.
