From August 9 to 16, 2026, 13 regions of Ukraine came under intense enemy fire: Russians launched a devastating "Banderol" missile strike on a residential building in Kharkiv, hit the territory of a children's hospital and a book market in Kyiv with ballistic missiles, deliberately attacked passenger trains in the Odesa region, and fired dozens of KABs (guided aerial bombs) at Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy regions. The Russian strikes resulted in the deaths of a teenage internally displaced person from the Kherson region, a mother and her nine-year-old son in the Sumy region, and a three-month-old infant in Marhanets. The casualties also include two State Emergency Service (SES) rescuers, two railway workers, and seven employees of the Zaporizhstal plant who died while performing their professional duties.
Chronicle of Russian Shelling
As of the afternoon of August 9, residential buildings, a hotel, and civilian and energy infrastructure were damaged in Odesa due to a massive overnight missile and drone attack. More than 300,000 families in Odesa and the surrounding district were temporarily left without electricity. In total, 14 people were injured in the attack in the region, most of whom were hospitalized, with one person in serious condition. During a repeated shelling, the blast wave damaged a bus carrying 12 children; one child sustained minor injuries. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, one person died, five people were injured, and residential buildings, cars, a regular bus, warehouses of a food enterprise, and infrastructure were damaged. In the Zaporizhzhia region, while eliminating the consequences of the shelling of civilian infrastructure on August 9, the enemy launched a repeated UAV strike, which killed experienced firefighter-rescuer Oleksandr Prodan, and injured two of his colleagues who were hospitalized.
In Sumy, on August 10, the enemy struck the residential sector and civilian infrastructure twice in 24 hours with guided aerial bombs: apartment and private buildings, non-residential premises, and cars were damaged, fires occurred, and ten citizens were injured, including a 14-year-old child; the Shostka community was affected by a UAV attack, where a non-residential building and a summer house were damaged. In the Poltava region, the consequences of strikes on a gas station, a private house, and an industrial facility were eliminated; in the Chernihiv region, two enterprises and a shop were damaged, and three civilians were injured. In the Mykolaiv region, a private house, a food industry facility, an educational institution, a church, and a store were damaged. In Kherson, a drone attack killed one man and injured a 16-year-old girl. In Nikopol, one man died and three people were injured; residential buildings, infrastructure, enterprises, and a gas station were damaged; in the Hrushivka community, an attack by an enemy FPV drone on a civilian car carrying displaced teenagers from the Kherson region led to the death of a 15-year-old boy, and two other youths were injured, one of whom sustained a severe head injury. The number of injured people in the air strike on Zaporizhzhia reached 26, including three children, with a ten-year-old girl in serious condition. Fires raged in the city, damaging non-residential buildings, multi-story buildings, and transport.
On the night of August 11, Russians launched a ballistic missile strike on the capital: in the Shevchenkivskyi district, there was an impact on the territory of a children's hospital, where two craters were found, the windows of the building and a gas pipe were damaged, patients and staff were in the shelter; there was also destruction and a massive fire in the warehouse premises of one enterprise, and one person was injured. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, two people died, including a seven-year-old girl among the injured; logistics warehouses, private and apartment buildings, a bank, administrative buildings, and a dormitory were damaged. In Mykolaiv and the region, attacks damaged residential buildings, an industrial facility, a trade establishment, and an unfinished construction object. In Sumy, while extinguishing a fire caused by an enemy UAV hit, 30-year-old SES rescuer Oleksii Stoliarenko died due to structural collapse. During the day, the occupiers struck the city with four guided aerial bombs, destroying and damaging about 20 private houses and civilian infrastructure objects, causing a fire, and a civilian man died in his car during the strike. At night, enemy air strikes on the power substation in Kherson caused partial power outages; the enemy dropped aerial bombs on a village in the Chornobaivka community, destroying and damaging a number of homes and injuring two men. Overall, in the Kherson community for the day, one person died and nine were injured, including a child. The Odesa region was also attacked again: the enemy hit a truck with a cistern containing residual oil, causing a fire in two vehicles, killing two people and injuring three. At night, Zaporizhzhia suffered a brutal combined attack using ten ballistic missiles and four KABs. Enemy hits struck industrial and civilian targets, damaging non-residential buildings, a garage cooperative, and four apartment buildings. The night attack resulted in the deaths of seven people and 24 injuries, 20 of whom were hospitalized, with two men in serious condition. The Metinvest company reported that seven employees of the Zaporizhstal metallurgical plant were killed and 21 more workers were injured. August 12 was declared a Day of Mourning in the city for the victims.
On the night of August 12, two people died under the rubble in Kherson due to a massive UAV attack on residential areas; ten people were injured, one person was hospitalized, houses were destroyed and damaged, and an SES unit was also attacked, where equipment and premises were damaged with subsequent fire. The UAV attack on Odesa damaged infrastructure and caused a fire in an apartment on the fifth floor of a multi-story building. In the Mykolaiv region, educational and trade facilities, an agro-industrial facility, and transport were damaged, and two men were injured. In the Chernihiv region, combined missile and drone strikes damaged an enterprise workshop, private households, and an abandoned church. In Pryluky, two people were injured, one person was hospitalized, and a hospital, houses, and cars were damaged. Enemy shelling in the Poltava region caused a fire at an industrial enterprise, and in the Sumy region, civilian infrastructure facilities were struck, resulting in injuries among the population. A morning drone attack in the Brovary district of the Kyiv region caused warehouses to catch fire and injured one man, and debris in the Desnianskyi district of the capital damaged the entrance to a medical facility. Russian occupiers struck Zaporizhzhia with drones, causing a massive fire at the Epicentr shopping center covering an area of 10,000 sq. m. Its liquidation was complicated by the threat of repeated shelling. Private houses were also damaged, and about 1,200 consumers were left without electricity.
On the night of August 13, drone attacks in Kherson resulted in fires and three deaths; the enemy launched an air strike on the residential sector of the Stepanivka Starostynskyi district, with two reported injuries. A civilian vessel was damaged in the port of the Mykolaiv district. In the Odesa region, Russians attacked passenger trains twice a day with jet drones: the first strike on the locomotive killed the engineer and his assistant; a repeated strike on another train injured a child; in total, more than 800 people, including almost 200 children, were evacuated from the site; an 18-year-old girl also sustained severe injuries during the drone attacks. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, nine civilians were injured, with one person in serious condition: infrastructure and a logistics company building in Pavlohrad were damaged; during the extinguishing of a fire, the enemy repeatedly attacked rescuers in the Nikopol region, destroying SES equipment. In the Chernihiv region, residential buildings, a gas station, car cooperatives, and enterprises in Chernihiv were damaged, and a ten-year-old child was injured.
On the night of August 14, in the Sumy region, the hit of two jet UAVs on a private house killed a 29-year-old woman and her nine-year-old son, and four more people were injured. In Sumy, a civilian car burned down due to a drone strike. In the Chernihiv region, fires raged in residential buildings, on the territory of a forestry, and at an enterprise, injuring two men. In Smila, Cherkasy region, a hit by an enemy UAV caused destruction and a fire in a nine-story building, injuring five people. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, two people died, including a policeman, and six people were injured, including two teenagers, with two people in serious condition; there was destruction at an agricultural enterprise and in the private sector. In the Kirovohrad region, there was a fire at an infrastructure object and a private house, and in the Zhytomyr region, at a critical infrastructure object and a private enterprise. In the Kherson region, six civilians were injured due to drone attacks, including a 16-year-old boy; Kherson was hit by air strikes, damaging industrial premises and social infrastructure. In the south of the Odesa region, hits were recorded in the residential sector, abandoned warehouses, and in an open area, injuring one person. At night, the occupiers struck an industrial facility in Zaporizhzhia, and during the day, they hit the territory of a garage cooperative and an enterprise, damaging a service car. Over several days, the Zaporizhzhia district suffered a series of enemy attacks, which resulted in civilian casualties and significant destruction.
On the night of August 15, in Marhanets, Dnipropetrovsk region, an enemy drone hit a four-story building, resulting in the death of a three-month-old boy and injuries to 11 people, seven of whom are in serious condition, including a five-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl; a fire broke out, damaging residential buildings, a store, and a cinema. During the day in Pavlohrad, two people were injured, and private houses were damaged; in Kryvyi Rih, a fire broke out, infrastructure was damaged, and three people were injured, two of whom are in serious condition. In the Nikopol region, five people were injured, including a 12-year-old boy, two women are in serious condition; five people were injured in the Synelnykove district. In Kherson, a number of micro-districts were de-energized due to the enemy attack. In the Mykolaiv region, a farmer's warehouse, a gas station, and two administrative buildings were damaged, and a woman was hospitalized. In the Odesa region, a UAV hit was recorded on the territory of a shoe factory, causing fires. In the Chernihiv region, private houses and cars were damaged, and a 13-year-old girl had an acute stress reaction. At night and during the day, Russian troops launched a series of drone strikes on Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding district. In Zaporizhzhia, UAVs struck a shopping center and the territory of an industrial enterprise, causing a fire. Late in the evening, an enemy FPV drone hit the territory of a private courtyard, damaging the window glazing and roof of the house. During the harvest in the Zaporizhzhia district, the enemy attacked agricultural machinery and cars with drones: the hit on a combine harvester in the field killed a 32-year-old man, another one was injured, the combine harvester and a car burned down, and a wheat field caught fire.
On the night of August 16, an enemy drone hit a civilian car in Sumy: a man was killed, and his wife was hospitalized with injuries, the car burned down. At night, the enemy attacked Kyiv, Kremenchuk, and Kryvyi Rih. In Kryvyi Rih, a combined strike on two industrial enterprises killed two men and injured 13 people; by morning, five injured people remained in the hospital, one in serious condition, and at least 12 multi-story buildings were also damaged. In the Mykolaiv region, a UAV attack on a farming enterprise injured two men, damaged a warehouse, a tractor, and destroyed a truck. A drone hit a house in Novodmytrivka, Kherson region, killing a 49-year-old man. In Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, enemy shelling damaged the facades and windows of three five-story buildings, and one person was injured. At night, Russians attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles: a massive fire broke out on the territory of a book market in the Obolonskyi district, and a non-residential building caught fire in the Holosiivskyi district. Three people were injured in the capital as a result of the night attack. In the morning, a drone attack in the Brovary district injured three people, including a child; one woman with shrapnel wounds was hospitalized, and a farm building and a private residential building were damaged. Over the week, Russians launched over 1,550 strike drones, nearly 1,560 aerial bombs, and 62 missiles, most of which were ballistic, on Ukraine.
Kharkiv Region
On the morning of August 9, Kharkiv was attacked by three "Banderol" cruise missiles: one hit a ten-story residential building in the Saltivskyi district, a warehouse of one of the stores was damaged, and the third hit a park area. As a result of the hit on the building, the floors from the seventh to the tenth were completely destroyed, two men died, and at least 36 people were reported injured, including a five-year-old boy. Emergency responders conducted an emergency evacuation from the damaged building, rescuing a family with an infant, a man in a wheelchair, and a domestic cat.
Over the next two days, the enemy attacked the Saltivskyi, Slobidskyi, Kyivskyi, and Kholodnohirskyi districts of Kharkiv with UAVs and missiles. Night hits on power substations in the city caused power outages. Private residential buildings, two dormitories, warehouses, a farm building, an administrative building, power grids, and cars were damaged.
During the Russian attack on Kharkiv on August 10, the house of sculptor Katib Mamedov was damaged by an impact, and a fire broke out there, reports Suspilne Kharkiv. Katib Mamedov is a People's Artist of Ukraine, an honorary citizen of Kharkiv of Azerbaijani origin, and a lecturer at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts.
On August 10, a massive artillery shelling of the residential sector in the village of Buhayivka, Chuhuiv district, destroyed houses and killed five people, according to the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
On August 11, the enemy launched missile strikes on the Pisochyn community, Balakliia, and Zolochiv, and hit the Saltivskyi district of Kharkiv with a UAV: ten people were injured, including a child. In the Pisochyn community, cargo trucks with trailers were damaged. In Balakliia, missile strikes on the residential sector caused a two-story house to catch fire, and multi-story buildings and the private sector were damaged. In Zolochiv, the roof of an educational institution caught fire over an area of 1,200 sq. m. On the evening of August 12, Russian shelling of the village of Tsyrkuny claimed one life. On August 13, an enemy attack with guided aerial bombs on Izium caused a fire and damaged about 20 private houses, and two women were hospitalized with injuries. On August 14, the enemy damaged an educational institution again, this time in Balakliia—a missile strike caused a fire on the roof of the educational facility. Over the weekend, at least ten people were injured in the region, and ten multi-story buildings were damaged in the regional center.
Donetsk Region
On the eve of the new week, on Sunday, August 9, hits were recorded on and near residential buildings and civilian cars in the Kramatorsk community, killing two people and injuring two. Russians attacked Sloviansk twice using FAB-250 and Molniia-2 UAVs, damaging the private sector and farm buildings.
On the night of August 10, UAV strikes in Sloviansk destroyed two dozen trade pavilions at the market, damaged the private sector and a non-residential building, and an hangar at an enterprise caught fire. During the day in the city, two people were injured, and buildings, specialized equipment, and the trolleybus administration were damaged. In the Kramatorsk community, a series of FAB-250 air strikes and UAV attacks killed one man and injured six people; private houses, educational institutions, industrial, railway, and communal infrastructure were damaged, and fires occurred.
At noon on August 11, a Molniia-2 UAV struck the central market in Sloviansk, where citizens were present—six people were injured, two of whom are in serious condition. In Kramatorsk, people were injured by drone and KAB strikes; residential buildings, a polyclinic, a bridge, a preschool educational institution, a dormitory, and a communal bus were damaged; there was a hit on the flagpole with the State Flag located in a park area, and a fire broke out in a church.
The "Vilne Radio" publication, citing Stanislav Baldin, spokesman for the SES in the Donetsk region, reports that firefighters quickly extinguished the fire over an area of 140 sq. m and rescued church property from the burning church, which was handed over to the rector. The further condition of the relics is unknown, but they were at least affected by smoke and soot. Over the day, two civilians died in the region, in Bilenke and Druzhkivka, and more than a dozen others were injured.
In Sloviansk, on August 12, seven people were injured as a result of combined attacks; private houses, an administrative building, infrastructure objects, a market, a medical facility, and transport were damaged. In Kramatorsk, two people died due to a hit on a car; there were injured people in the city, a private house was damaged, and numerous hits on parked cars were recorded. While liquidating the consequences of the fire, an enemy FPV drone repeatedly struck the rescuers, damaging a fire truck, but the SES personnel managed to retreat to a safe distance and were not injured.
Over August 13–14, Sloviansk suffered a series of enemy shellings: a private ceramic enterprise, a market, residential buildings, cars, and the road and pedestrian bridges over the Kazennyi Torets River were damaged, and five people were injured. On the evening of August 13, Russian troops launched a massive air strike on the Kramatorsk community, dropping about ten aerial bombs on Kramatorsk and the village of Bilenke. As a result of the hits on a ten-story residential building, structures from the first to the sixth floor collapsed, and a large-scale fire broke out. Hits were also recorded in the private sector, a café, and a construction supply warehouse. In total, at least 112 objects were damaged, including 35 multi-story buildings, 68 private houses, and 25 cars. The attack resulted in one death and 22 injuries, and emergency responders managed to rescue six people from under the rubble.
The Russian air strike damaged the city's gas infrastructure, leaving 176 residents in apartment buildings without gas supply on the morning of August 15, reported "Vilne Radio."
Over the weekend of August 15–16, more than 30 private households, an administrative building, and cars were damaged in Sloviansk, and two local residents were injured. A night air strike with high-explosive aerial bombs on the private sector of the city caused fires in a residential building and a farm building, damaging 22 houses.
