The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund (KSMF) invites freelance media professionals, local reporters, and fixers from around the world to apply for its annual award. Winners in three categories will receive a prize of $5,000.

  • The Freelancer category is for freelance journalists working in global conflict zones at personal risk.
  • The Local Reporter category is for media professionals in developing countries or countries with economies in transition who write about events in their home countries.
  • The Fixer category is for local journalists hired by foreign media whose work contributes to international coverage of complex, dangerous, or hostile locations.

Candidates for the Local Reporter and Freelancer categories must submit three articles published between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024. Candidates for the Fixer award must submit three recommendations from foreign correspondents with whom they have worked during the same period. The publications should cover conflicts, human rights, cross-border issues, or any controversial issues in the country or region.

Applications must be submitted to the website according to the nominations “Freelancer,” “Local Reporter,” and “Fixer.”
