On Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, Russian forces struck a high-rise residential building in Kharkiv with guided aerial bombs. The fire spread across four floors. The attack injured 41 people, including four children.
“Kharkiv. The enemy struck a residential high-rise. There is a fire and destruction,” Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote at 3:20 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., he reported 41 injured civilians. Preliminary information indicates the enemy hit the 10th floor; the fire spread across four floors—from the 9th to the 12th.

Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov noted that the search-and-rescue operation is ongoing and that one entrance of the building has been destroyed:
“People may be trapped under the rubble. Residents are being evacuated. Specialized services are working on site, along with humanitarian, international, and Ukrainian organizations.”
The attack damaged at least 1,500 windows and dozens of cars.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the Russian attack, noting that determination is what most effectively protects against terror.
“The world must help protect us from Russia’s military aviation—against the dozens of guided aerial bombs that every day take Ukrainian lives. This terror can be stopped. But to stop terror, we must stop being afraid of strong decisions that are objectively necessary. Only determination can end this war justly,” the president wrote.
As a reminder, on Sept. 1, Russians once again struck Kharkiv. That day, debris injured two medics. They came under a repeat Russian strike while providing assistance to Kharkiv residents.
