On Wednesday afternoon, May 14, 2024, Russians shelled Kharkiv several times. A series of explosions was heard across the city. First, Russian forces struck a residential high‑rise building in the city center. As a result of this attack, apartments from the 9th to the 13th floors were destroyed.

Twenty people sustained injuries of varying severity, including a 12‑year‑old boy and an 8‑year‑old girl. Six people were hospitalized.

“They are in moderate condition. The oldest man is 87 years old. Overall, one civilian man is in serious condition. Eleven people sustained moderate injuries. Five are in mild condition,” clarified the Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleg Sinegubov.

“It is impossible to say that there are any military facilities here — nearby there are educational institutions, the metro, and residential buildings,” noted Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov.

People will be relocated from the building that sustained severe damage. He also added that in another location, Russians struck garages, ten of which caught fire.

After that, Russians carried out several repeat strikes on the residential area. Part of one missile failed to detonate.

The air‑raid alert in Kharkiv region sounded from 14:32. The Air Force warned of launches of guided aerial bombs in Kharkiv region. However, as early as 6 a.m. that day, the city and its outskirts were hit several times. As a result of the attack, seven high‑rise buildings were damaged, and two people were injured.

We remind that over the past month, Russians have increased the intensity of shelling of Kharkiv with guided aerial bombs, and last week they breached the border in two locations in the region. They are currently trying to advance deeper into the area. Heavy fighting for Vovchansk continues.
