Energy facilities remain the primary targets for the Russian army. Transport infrastructure, private enterprises, and residential buildings are also under constant fire. In Lviv, Mykolaiv, and Dnipro, a series of terrorist attacks were carried out against police officers, resulting in deaths and injuries. Over the last week of the war, Russia deployed more than 1,720 strike drones, nearly 1,300 guided aerial bombs (KABs), and over 100 missiles of various types against Ukraine. Throughout the winter, Russians launched almost 19,000 strike drones, 738 missiles, and over 14,670 KABs.

Kyiv Region: Massive Destruction and Fires

On the night of February 22, Russians launched a combined strike on Ukraine's critical infrastructure. Debris was discovered in the Dniprovskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Podilskyi, and Desnianskyi districts of the capital, including areas near an ambulance station, in residential courtyards, and within park zones. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a blast wave shattered windows in residential buildings and an office complex.

Devastating consequences of the attack were recorded in the suburbs of the capital, specifically in Sofiivska Borshchahivka, where a woman and a child were hospitalized. Houses there were damaged or destroyed, and massive fires broke out. In Sofiivska Borshchahivka, the blast wave also damaged a monastery, reports “Ukrainska Pravda. Zhyttia”. A mobile aid station was set up in the affected village so that residents could rest, have hot drinks, and receive support from SES (State Emergency Service) psychologists.

In the Kyiv region, the consequences of the night attack were documented across six districts: Boryspil, Brovary, Fastiv, Bucha, Obukhiv, and Vyshhorod. The enemy attack damaged over 100 homes: ranging from completely destroyed houses and apartments to damaged facades and blown-out windows. Business facilities, garage cooperatives, warehouses, and office spaces also came under fire. In the Obukhiv district, a critical and railway infrastructure facility was damaged. In the Boryspil district, the blast wave damaged a church.

One person was killed in the Fastiv district, and seven others were injured, including a child. In total, the February 22 attack resulted in 17 casualties, including four children. Four adults and one child are currently hospitalized in moderate condition. Among the hospitalized adults, two are in critical condition. Eight people, including one child, were rescued from under the rubble.

On February 26, Russians struck the capital and the surrounding region again with drones and missiles. Several districts in Kyiv were affected: Holosiivskyi, Pecherskyi, and Darnytskyi. In Holosiivskyi, garages caught fire. In Darnytskyi, a blast wave damaged windows and doors in a high-rise apartment. In Pecherskyi, a two-story residential building on a private estate was set ablaze.

In the Kyiv region, the Vyshhorod, Brovary, Bucha, and Obukhiv districts suffered damage. Warehouses, private homes, a community center, and cars were damaged, and fires broke out. On the final day of winter, the enemy attacked the Obukhiv area with drones, damaging an agricultural facility, a private house, and a vehicle.

Chronicle of Russian Shelling: February 22 to March 1, 2026

On the night of February 22, Russians launched a massive strike on Ukraine's critical infrastructure using about fifty missiles and 297 drones of various types. The Kyiv, Odesa, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Cherkasy regions were affected. Transport infrastructure was damaged in Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia. In Lviv, explosions occurred following a terrorist attack; a female police officer was killed, and 25 people were injured, including a minor. A patrol car and a civilian vehicle were damaged.

On the night of February 23, Russian drones attacked Zaporizhzhia, injuring five people, including a child. A hit was recorded at a production building, causing a fire over an area of 200 square meters; high-rise buildings were also damaged. In the Dnipro region, a man was wounded, and an SES unit was damaged. In the Odesa region, two people were killed, including a 20-year-old girl; three others were injured, two of whom are in serious condition. The UAV strike damaged civilian, energy, and port infrastructure, sparking fires at several locations. The enemy also hit critical infrastructure in the Kharkiv region, where two children were among the injured. Kherson remains under daily shelling; one person was killed and another wounded during this period. In Mykolaiv, an explosion occurred at a defunct gas station, injuring seven police officers, two of whom are in critical condition. Investigators have classified the explosion as a terrorist act, reports Suspilne Mykolaiv. Another terrorist attack took place in Dnipro, where an explosion damaged a police station building.

On February 24, Russians again targeted Zaporizhzhia with drones: high-rise buildings and infrastructure facilities were damaged, and three people were wounded, including a child. In Kherson, 62-year-old Oleksandr Baranov, an employee of the Kherson Water Utility's drainage service, was killed by a Russian drone while performing his duties. In the Kharkiv region and its regional center, 11 people were injured, including two children. Private houses were damaged in Kharkiv. In Nikopol, Dnipro region, one person was killed.

Overnight on February 25, Russians launched airstrikes on a village in the Zaporizhzhia district; four people were killed, a child was injured, and homes were destroyed. Elsewhere in the region, residential buildings caught fire following a drone attack, and one person was injured. In the Sumy region, a Russian FPV drone killed SES rescuer Pavlo Kolisnyk by striking his car. In the Chernihiv region, an FPV drone wounded a teenager; an energy facility in the Nizhyn district was also attacked. In the Dnipro region, two people were killed and others wounded; Nikopol remains under daily attack. Enemy drones targeted critical and transport infrastructure in the city and region of Mykolaiv.

On the night of February 26, Russians attacked critical, civilian, and railway infrastructure in several regions, including gas infrastructure in the Poltava region and electrical substations in the Kyiv and Dnipro regions. The Russian army deployed 420 UAVs of various types and 39 missiles. Dozens were injured, including children. In the Kharkiv region, 16 people were hurt, including two children; in Kharkiv, three high-rise buildings, private houses, a civilian enterprise, the Children's Southern Railway building, and a park were damaged. In Kryvyi Rih, two people were hospitalized, and a high-rise and a fire-rescue unit were damaged; a woman was wounded in Nikopol. In Zaporizhzhia, about a dozen people were injured, including an eight-year-old child; two shopping centers were damaged. In the Chernihiv region, a residential building caught fire due to a fallen drone, injuring three people. During the day, Russians attacked the outskirts of Chernihiv, likely with a ballistic missile. In the Sumy region, a fragment of a Russian drone injured a teenager. Fatalities were reported in the Donetsk region. Russians are using various types of weaponry to level the Korabelnyi district of Kherson; a woman was killed there during artillery shelling.

Early in the morning on February 27, Russians struck a hotel in the center of Sumy; a double-tap strike occurred during the cleanup operation. In a border community, a Russian drone attacked a civilian vehicle, killing two people on the spot; one person managed to survive. In the Shostka district, an agricultural enterprise came under fire; two female employees were killed, and one was seriously injured. In the Odesa region, a night drone attack on civilian and port infrastructure injured two people, including a three-year-old girl; both were hospitalized in moderate condition. Port reservoirs, a residential building, a medical facility, a structure at a kindergarten, and cars were damaged, with large-scale fires breaking out. Russians are erasing border communities in the Chernihiv region; in particular, Novhorod-Siverskyi was attacked, injuring two police officers. In another district, a woodworking enterprise was targeted. Fatalities and injuries were also reported in the Kharkiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

On February 28, the enemy struck the Dnipro region, specifically targeting Dnipro and Nikopol. In Dnipro, transport infrastructure and high-rise buildings were damaged, and an electric locomotive driver was injured. In the Sumy region, the adversary hit a Ukrposhta (Ukrainian Postal Service) vehicle; the driver is in critical condition, and a local resident was injured. In the Chernihiv region, Russians attacked transport infrastructure and a forestry facility, damaging equipment and a truck. In the Kharkiv region, seven people were injured over the course of the day, including two children. Russians struck a gas production facility belonging to NJSC Naftogaz; equipment was damaged, resulting in depressurization, as reported by “Ekonomichna Pravda”. One fatality each was reported in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.

On March 1, eight people were injured in the Kharkiv region due to Russian shelling; private houses, a community center, a farm, warehouses, and power grids were damaged. Three people were injured in the regional center, where a dormitory and shop windows were damaged. In the Donetsk region, three civilians were killed in Donetske and Kostiantynivka. In the Dnipro region, one person was killed and four others were wounded. In Mykolaiv, a drone attack damaged windows and roofs of private houses, as well as a community center.
