Anniversary of the Olenivka terrorist attack
The tragedy in Olenivka occurred on the night of July 29: an explosion rang out in the barrack of Correctional Colony No. 120. The day before, Ukrainian prisoners of war, including defenders of Azovstal, had been deliberately moved there. Ukraine recognized this attack as a terrorist act. As reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General in the summer of 2024, investigative actions were still ongoing without charges being filed. This war crime claimed the lives of more than 50 people, and over 140 were injured.

A supermarket is on fire, medics are wounded, and people are trapped under the rubble. The Russians struck Kharkiv with Iskander‑M missiles.
On September 1, 2024, Russian forces struck three locations in the city of Kharkiv more than ten times: the Kharkiv Palace of Sports, a shopping mall in the Saltivskyi district, and areas near the Hydropark in the Kyivskyi district. The damage included a Nova Poshta branch, shops, a sports complex, a shopping center, vehicles, and one energy facility.

In August 2014, one of the fiercest battles for the Ukrainian military in the war in the east took place near the city of Ilovaisk. The Ukrainian command decided to storm the city occupied by pro-Russian militants, located 43 km from Donetsk. Instead, the operation turned into a tragedy. The fighting lasted almost a month. About 400 Ukrainian servicemen died in the “Ilovai cauldron”, as many were wounded of varying severity, and about 300 were taken prisoner.

The exhibition “Bakhmut. Faces of Genocide 1942 | 2022” has opened in Kaunas, Lithuania.
On August 23, 2024, the “Ninth Fort” Museum in Kaunas hosted the opening of the exhibition “Bakhmut. Faces of Genocide 1942 | 2022,” which became an important event for the Lithuanian audience. Organized by the National Historical and Memorial Reserve “Babyn Yar” with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP), this exhibition is the first project by the Babyn Yar Reserve to be presented in a European Union country.
