We continue to introduce you to the finalists of our annual grant support for documentary photographers - an initiative implemented by UAPP with the support of the International Press Institute. "Nobody survives in wars" - a new project by Lisa Bukreeva, which tells about doctors at a stabilization point in the Kharkiv region. This is a project about the love of life, which becomes a challenge. And about those who take it every day.

Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter - this week's religious holidays for Ukrainians turned into days of mourning as Russia targeted residential areas, schools, kindergartens, markets and playgrounds. Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa - all of these cities suffered from Russian shelling on the eve of the holidays and during the holidays. 35 dead in Sumy, over 120 injured in Kharkiv, dozens of wounded children. It was another week of terror: from April 14 to April 20, 2025, the Russian army continued its terrorist attacks on Ukrainian cities. Russia targeted residential areas, educational and cultural institutions, despite the approach of religious holidays.

“I WILL RETURN” is a documentary photo project created within the framework of the UAPP microgrant program. This project tells the story of artist Daria Zymenko — a story in which occupation, violence, survival and art are intertwined. In February-March 2022, Darya survived the Russian occupation in the Kiev region with her family, suffered sexual violence from the Russian military and dared to speak about it publicly.

Oleksiy Chistotin is a new member of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers. In this conversation, he talks about his path in film photography, his experience of shooting in the de-occupied territories, creating art books and working with archives. He also shares his reflections on the war, mobilization, and the support he finds in Kharkiv.

З 7 по 13 квітня 2025 року Росія здійснила низку ударів по мирних містах України, вчергове доводячи, що її головною ціллю залишається цивільне населення. Попри тимчасове зниження інтенсивності обстрілів у березні, цього тижня РФ повернулася до типових для себе терористичних атак з використанням дронів-камікадзе, авіабомб і балістичних ракет. Найбільш резонансною стала атака на Суми 13 квітня — під час Вербної неділі загинула 21 людина.
